Q: What's New this year?
A: Several new teams, the Apprentice Bracket for grades 1-4, and we
may add a meet allowing quizzers to drop some of their lowest scores
for the year's record.
Q: How much time do quizzers need to
spend on Bible quizzing?
A: A team should meet once a week for study & practice, and each
quizzer should read (or listen to) the material at least 30 minutes
a day. All most all non-quizzers will say something like "I'm
too busy", "I have too much school work" but.... it has been
demonstrated, (you can prove this for yourself), that you can do it,
and it does help with study habits. When was the last time you
spent 30 minutes watching TV? A few parents believe that God
honors the busy students who make time to study His Word, and they
also do well at school. The student who studies an hour a day
or more is contending for the top awards, but you can study as
little as you like.
Q: How many quizzers make a team?
A: A team can be 2-10 or more quizzers. If only one of your
team is able to be at a meet, he or she can still quiz. The
best team size is 4 or 5, because only 3 team members (at a time)
can quiz in a game. The only good reason to have a large team
is because students who want to quiz need an additional coach(s).
Q: What is a quiz game?
A: A quiz game or match is the 'head to head' competition of two
quiz teams, using an electronic quiz set. A quizmaster is in
charge of the game, asks the questions, and may have judges and a
time keeper, and an official score keeper. Three team members
from each team set at the table with hand pads or buttons, and vie
for a chance to answer the questions.
A game uses a 'set of questions', which is 20 questions plus 3
overtime questions.
The set includes (3) 30 point, (9) 20 point, and (8) 10 point
questions.
Scoring the most points - one team could score as much as
390 points in a match.
10 bonus points are awarded for a quizout (quizzer getting 5
questions correct). Here is the math, 3x30 + 9x20 + 8x10 + 40
(for quizouts) = 390.
Q: Must quiz teams be connected to a
church or school?
A: No. Many are associated with a church, school or home
school group, but this is not required.
Q: How long has CQL been doing this?
A: CQL was organized in August 2003. The 2010-11 season will
be our 7th full season.
